| Zuiun Matsuda is the very unique artist of Buddhist images.
He does the carving and the coloring. And
more, he puts life into a statue being gifted
with a special talent as a Buddhist priest. He
does everything himself. In the world of traditional Japanese Buddhist image-making, carvers, painters, the priests who put life into a statue are always separate people. Not only that, most of maker divides the work of image-making among hundreds of workers even the main body of image lately. There is one thing worthy of special mention about him. Usually the form of Buddhist images is based on (Giki),Buddha's teaching. It's been a easy way for artists to make images since the advent of Buddhist images. But as a result,Buddhist images have been remained monotonous for thousands years. He studied hard about the form of Buddhist images ,then found out a remarkable teaching about their forms on Buddhit scripture in 1990. The contents of teaching is as follows. "Buddaha has no set form, but he can manifest himself in any form and all excellent attributes." He started to up-date the statues in cubist forms as Picasso did. and make them more in keeping with our modern day lives. Buddhist images are everything to him, he loves Buddhist images. Both his traditional works and original works speak for themselves. In these forms, you will find peace and love. |
